My Evaluation

I believe that I have worked very hard on this coursework and am proud of what I have done however there are always things I am better at and and could have done better.

Things I done well:

• I am a quick learner so it was very easy for me to pick up new skills for example using photoshop,editing and adding to the pictures.
• I thought I was good at taking the picture also taking in mind the mise-en-scene.
• I also found using the blog good.

Things I could have done better:

• I think organising my time a bit more,even though I didnt leave everything to the last minute,I could have done certain things in adavance.
• What also slowed me down was not being confident in the work I had done and always needing reassurance from someone.
• Even though I beleve I was good at taking pictures I think I need to be more imaginative with what I could do with my pictures to make them stand out.

This is my final contents page I have decided to create a colour theme of blue and red running through both the front cover
and the contents page,As the
lockers are red as well.All the main coverlines I made the font size bigger so the audience could see the different subjects.I decided to take pictures of things easy to relate with and things that students commonly do at school for example:The credit Crunch,reading and writing and socialising with friends.


Here are the three pictures I took with my phone as I was unable to get a camera as you can see they came out very clear .

Contents page designs

This contents page is the exact same layout as my final contents page. I used one group picture,one single picture and another of an object.However i dont think all the coverlines are the same.I think this layout was the best as it was simple and got straight to the point I decided not to use my picture as my background but just to keep it plain white and use colours for the effects.

Front cover

This is the picture i had taken for my final magazine piece.

I decided that i just wanted a simple picture and so that when I added all the effects it wouldnt look too crowded.

This is my final magazine front cover.

I decided to go for an origianl theme of having the masthead at the top centre making it big and bold so that that would be the first thing to catch the audiences attention.

As my picture is the background for my magazine it was very hard to place my cover lines all in one place without covering key parts of the picture so i decided to put them around the main parts of the picture which was still very effective.

I tried to make my magazine look as real as possible by adding a bar code in the bottom right-hand corner,this was a problem because originally I had put the dateline there and the bar code would look odd anywhere else so I had to make a space for the dateline to go as well as still making it look good.

Taking photographs

Before taking my pictures for my magazine we had to learn how to take good photos to make my magazine look as professional as possible.

We used a Canon Eos 400d digital camera
Bowens Gemini flash unit with softbox
Radio trigger -

We also had to learn about lighting and where the best paces are to take pictures. The images were saved to a compact flash card.Then loaded onto the computer into Adobe photoshop.We was also shown how to edit our pictures in photoshop changing a range of faults with the picture for example the brightness of the picture clearing up uneven skin and adding effects.

My Model
I decided that for my front cover i was not going to get them a costume as she is already a student so she is not actng anything out.I nly used one prop which was a book to shop my model reading a book.I wanted my picture to be set in front of the school lockers.

This is the front cover design that I based my final magazine cover on.All the topics are the same however the picture I took was different as it is not a simple picture of my model I decided that I wanted to set the scene of my model being in school and the magazine actually being a school magazine.

Questionnaire & results

These are my results for my questionaire for a school magazine.I have put the results in a 3-D pie charts with percentages.From my charts the results show:

• In total I asked 20 students- 10 being Male and the other half being female


• 90% of students were aged 15-18 & 10% were aged 19+


• 75% of the students beleieve they do not have a school magazine


• 50% of students sat that they would read the magazine for school information,20% of the students say they would read it for world news,15% said to read students articles,10% said for information from teachers and 5% said for information on school trips


• 65% of students said that their teachers dont or shouldnt have a say in what goes into the magazine 36% say they should


• 55% of students say that they do or wouldnt mind paying fo the magazine


• 35% of students would like and agony aunt section
  


• 50% of students would like to see the magazine released eery fortnight,35% say every month & 15% said every week

I used these results to decide what the best topics were to put in my magazine that would most likely interest the audience.
